Referring to a big running stitch, Big Stitch has been called a "utility quilting stitch" and includes cultural stitching like Kantha/Kawandi from India and Sashiko/Boro from Japan to repair Saris and kimonos. We'll look at the differences and practice the technique. Big stitch quilting is a type of quilting that is exclusively completed by hand, no sewing machine required. As the name suggests, this type of quilting is done by using large, basic, running stitch and much heavier thread, as compared to traditional hand quilting, to create designs on the quilt top. Hand quilting gives a new level of satisfaction upon the completion of a project because of the extra time and attention to detail that it takes to hand quilt.
